“DPR Intend to Eradicate Anti Graft Commission”

The revision of Law on Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as proposed by members of six factions in the House of Representatives (DPR) will kill off the anti-graft commission. The proposed revision will also trim down KPK's authorities thus restraining the commission from having an optimal role in eradicating corruption.

The space for the Judicial Commission (KY) to perform their duties in monitoring an independent judicial authorities in enforcing law and justice has become even more limited. The constitutional court had curtailed KY's roles in appointment selection of first-level judges.

The maneuver taken by DPR in proposing revision of Law No. 30/2002 about KPK was generally presumed as an effort to protect corruption perpetrators. A number of articles in the draft of revision were seen to highly damaging for KPK's position. When responding to concerns expressed by various members of society about the issue, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno explained that President Joko Widodo's position in this case in firmly against the revision of KPK Law.

Acting Deputy Chairman of KPK Indriyanto Seno Adji explained that the Draft Law on National Pardon proposed by DPR is not directly related to corruption crimes. The draft does not explicitly mention corruption offenses as it was about tax amnesty.
