KPK to interrogate Aceh governor today [10/06/04]

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will examine Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Governor Abdullah Puteh on Thursday over his alleged involvement in a corruption case.

Puteh, accompanied by staff members, arrived at the KPK office here at 8:15 a.m., while his lawyer, OC Kaligis, arrived 90 minutes later.

The Aceh governor is suspected of marking up the price of new power generators, which reportedly caused Rp 30 billion (US$3.3 million) in state losses and a markup in the purchase of a Russian Mi-2 helicopter that cost Rp 12 billion.

The police will investigate the first case, while the KPK will probe the second one.

Kaligis said his client would be interrogated on Thursday as a follow-up to last week's interrogation, in which the Aceh governor answered only 7 questions from the commission.

On Puteh's alleged corruption case, Kaligis said he would give information after his client is questioned.

Besides the governor, a number of Acehnese provincial government officials will also be questioned surrounding the purchase of a Rp12.6 billion helicopter from Russia.
