Money Laundering Law analyst, Yenti Ganarsih, warned the Government to tread carefully when developing its proposed tax amnesty. She asserted that providing such an amnesty to corruptors and money launderers could risk a loss of the country’s public reputation.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Police (Bareskrim) Commissioner General Budi Waseso is seeking an increase of individual case budgets to be in line with KPK’s, ignoring the far more complex nature of KPK’s cases as assigned by Law. Separately Waseso disagreed with Badrodin Haiti stating that the National Police should not be given wider wiretapping authorities due to concerns about weak internal supervision.

Three employees of PT Mitra Maju Success (MMS) were among the witnesses scheduled to undergo questioning by KPK investigators on Monday, June 29. They were summoned in relation to an alleged unallowable gift by MMS for PDI-P politician, Adriansyah.

Acting Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Johan Budi stated that corruption has plagued all sectors in the country, including religion. He highlighted that perpetrators go as far as conducting corrupt transactions while on a joint Umrah in the holy land, in order to elude KPK.

The selection committee for KPK leadership (Pansel KPK) are experiencing difficulties in asking applicants to complete the administrative requirements. If by the time the registration period ends on July 3, an applicant will not have completed the requirements, he/she will be automatically disqualified. Pansel KPK spokesperson, Betti Alisjahbana, explained that the next phase is to receive public feedback on the names that pass administrative selection. This phase will be open for one month from July 4 to August 3, 2015.
