“KUHP, KUHAP revisions may be delayed”

Long-expected revisions in the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedures Code are likely to be delayed until next year, as acknowledged yesterday by the Minister of Law and Human Rights. This comes on the heel of an almost universal acknowledgement that the hopelessly out of date Codes, one example being the pre-trial hearings that have slowed down KPK’s efforts. KPK and civil society have long promoted reforms to the Codes and will continue their efforts.

Dahlan Iskan who was named as suspect in a corruption case of electric relay substations had appointed Yusril Mahendra as his lawyer. Dahlan explained that his appointment of Yusril was based on inputs from his colleagues and family. In parallel, a fourth case against the outspoken media outlet owner and ex-minister was announced, this time by the Attorney General’s office.

The case of alleged state budget corruption in Cirebon regency will soon be tried. The suspects are Deputy Regent of Cirebon Tasiya Somadi, Deputy Secretary of PDIP Cirebon branch Emon Purnomo, and Chair of PDIP Kecamatan Kedawung sub-branch Subekti Sunoto. State loss in the case was estimated at roughly of Rp 1.8 billion.

Lulung, who allegedly was involved in the Jakarta UPS project case has claimed not to know Alex Usman, a named suspect in the case. Lulung swore he does not know and have never even met Alex Usman, the Head of Infrastructures at West Jakarta Education Agency.
