Government must prepare a government regulation in place of the law to anticipate vacant leadership at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), seeing that KPK will certainly be paralyzed if Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) neglected to choose 5 from 10 candidates to lead KPK in 2015-2019, or if there is a deadlock in selection after the deadline on Dec. 16.

The fate of the revision of Law No. 30/2002 about KPK will be determined today. According to schedule, DPR will hold a plenary session to authorize transfer of initiative for KPK Law revision from the government to the parliament.

The Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) of the National Police (Polri) insisted to take KPK investigator Novel to Bengkulu to be handed to the local Attorney General in investigation of the alleged persecution of a swallow birds nest thief suspect in 2004 that lead to the suspect’s death. According to Muji, Novel’s lawyer, the police acted arbitrarily and disregarded legal procedures. He suspected the Police of having a scheme to detain Novel in Bengkulu, thus averting public attention on his client’s case, which is generally presumed as criminalization attempt from the outset.

Misuse or misappropriation of grant fund for social aid (bansos) dominates corruption cases being handled by Provincial Police of East Java during 2015. From 91 cases processed by the police, 40 cases have been submitted to the Province’s Attorney General.
